Wild-harvested from the alkaline ponds of Kanem by the Kanembu women. One of the oldest continuously eaten spirulinas on Earth, not a tank-grown one. Sun-dried in traditional flat cakes (dihé), then milled to powder. Origin-water quality test included per batch.

Origin & cooperative

Sourced from the Dihé Cooperative of Bol on Lake Chad, Kanem region. Direct relationship, no brokers, fair pricing paid before the batch leaves origin.

Botanical name: Arthrospira platensis
Certification status: not certified organic. Wild-harvested from an open lake ecosystem, which is not certifiable under schemes built for cultivated land. Harvest log, harvest location and source-pond water test supplied per lot. Status per ingredient.

Specifications & documentation

  • Per-batch CoA, microbiology and heavy metals as standard. Pesticide residue panels (food-grade) and ISO 17516 thresholds (cosmetic-grade) available on request. The laboratory name and its accreditation scope are disclosed in your quote. CoA process.
  • Cyanotoxin screening, microcystin analysis is carried out on the harvest lot and the current report is available on request before you order. Wild-harvested algae warrants this check; ask for the report and verify it against your own specification.
  • Source-pond water quality test, supplied with the harvest lot documentation.
  • Phytosanitary certificate, issued by DPV Bénin on every export from Cotonou. Certificate explained.
  • Country-of-origin documentation, we name the country, the region, and the cooperative.
  • Grade options, food and/or cosmetic grade (depends on ingredient; see grade differences).

Lead time & logistics

Standard lead time: 5 to 10 business days for orders under 100 kg, 14 to 21 days above. Peak harvest runs November to April. DHL Express from Cotonou is the default for 5 to 550 kg, with transit of 5 to 9 business days to the US and Europe; sea freight applies above 550 kg. See freight mode by tier. US shipments are subject to customs duties on any value since the de minimis exemption ended on 29 August 2025.
